How did I get here?
I don’t know how to tell you this without sounding crazy, here is how I would like it to be told.....
You have superpowers, there is a muscle between your ears, if you use it, it grows exponentially. How much can it grow you ask, well, come in close and I will tell you about my journey to now. I was around 35 years old when I felt the force awaken within me. I was a few months shy of graduating with a BA in Computer Science and keeping myself busy when I didn’t have my kids. I was in one of my last electives, everything after this was core to my degree. Anyway, the elective I was in, my second sociology class, I really enjoyed the first one, so I elected to take another. Sometime halfway through that semester, I was assigned homework to read chapter seven. I opened the book and began to read about why we do things and didn’t stop until I reached the end of the book. I’m a slow reader, I was so wrapped up by my own level of interest in the book that I lost myself in it. It was a flex, a surge of power, I don’t figure out the source until much later. I begin to read books, self help book, science fiction books, self help books, I was rewarding myself with a fun book for reading a self-help book, it worked. Heinlein is the GOAT, Paulo Coelho, Alexander Dumas, Eckhart Tolle, Andy Andrews, Rysa Walker, and many more, I found deep knowledge. I started studying something on the side whenever something struck my interest.
The first thing to interest me was exactly what I was just reading about in sociology class, why do we do things? The short answer, socialization, religion, and now tik tok. Most of us were trained like rats to perform our daily life and don’t even realize it. Religion has a major sway on the socialization because of the base rules of the society. I studied, Confucianism, Taoism, Buddhism, Judaism, Scientology, Christianity, Islam, and a few others. Shout out to the most interesting one that didn’t make the list, the shakers, these guys were awesome. I think they had some stuff figured out, I don’t think it will ever work but they have greatness in history for a valiant effort. First, they could build a building four stories tall still standing today, this isn’t a small building. They started before our country was independent of Britain. They had women holding leadership roles, they accepted slaves as free men, and the abused as an equal. They worked hard and smoked meats, they were happy and great Christians. The reason it won’t work, the reason their numbers dwindled, the men slept on their half of the building and the women on the other. I know what you’re thinking, no more complaining about snoring, but that isn’t the kicker, they didn’t have sex. Here is to the most noble effort I saw, they were very sacrificial, a good people who were ahead of their time. They did great things for true equality before it was cool but abstaining from sex isn’t good for numbers. Whenever something caught my interest, it became a study.
I did a juice cleanse for ten days. During that time was the first ten days without alcohol in years. I completely quit drinking as a norm a few months later. Now, I have a beverage as a treat, one, maybe even two. I was abusing the poison they give us to numb the pain. Once you realize alcohol is a sedative you can self-medicate with and it stops your personal growth in more ways than one, you stop. I fasted for over a week, during this time my dreams returned, I started to feel joy in life again. I was surviving for so long, I had forgotten how to live. This realization began my research into myself to ensure I wasn’t a narcissist or mentally unstable. I think I failed the test. Months of research to realize that self-indulgence even if it is better for you and of pure intent, is still narcissistic when you study yourself that much. I began studying stoicism, I saw the light, this philosophy is way out front, and I can’t see the issues in it yet. As I peered deeper into the water to see my reflection, I spent my time under this analysis. How do I reach my best self; I try eating better, I start taking vitamins, I go to the gym, I investigate movement training, and begin doing light calisthenics. I try to read more and I have dreams of solutions to problems. I began to write in journals, one for each of my children. My journal is a story about my dream. Now I have spent the last year preparing to go back to school. I knew I wanted to go back to school, I love to learn new things. I listened to the strangest secret by Earl Nightingale; develop a noble cause, write it on a three by five card and carry it in your pocket and look at it as often as possible. On the back write, words from the sermon on the mount; “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and it will be opened for you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.”. Failure is impossible, no fear, and listen to this every day for thirty days. On the fourth day while driving to work I hear it, “Develop a philosophy widely accepted as the way to gain happiness and knowledge”! I heard it! I arrived at work and wrote it all down. Imagine a world where children are all given the best toolbox, learning is fun, knowledge is something they seek, they respect their teachers, and despair is mostly a thing of the past. That was over six months ago, here is where I am at.
Goal 1: Graduate Studies in Education curriculum, begin creating the best college prep program out there. Study the main current doctrines on public education in the country, what are we doing, what can improve now, what can be phased in, what is missing, and separate this out by the proper age group and talk to subject matter experts to document what is currently happening in our schools. We will make common sense approved changes in the current environment to quickly adapt what we can do for the better.
Goal 2: Undergraduate and Graduate Studies of Psychology, through the lens of education, analyze what is needed for development and happiness in school age children. Breakdown the needs by age group and speak to subject matter experts to determine the needs of each age group, to include self-education, horticulture, physical health, mental health, progressive independence, and emotional maturity. Create a curriculum using innovative learning styles such as video games and areas of personal interest.
Goal 3: Doctor of Psychology. With the help of the experts in the field, create a plan to implement the curriculum in the previous phase in a responsible manner. These phases will be on loop, there is always room for improvement, and this should be everyone’s number one priority. I picture a world where teachers for children eight and under are psychologist, they go to a special learning program just for helping our young children in the best way and they are able to help the parents along the way. We put a high level of importance on extracurricular activities for exercise, and we will ensure they understand the law, the constitution, and the history of the world. Then, start the loop over to phase one again with an emphasis on improving the system. What is the source you ask? Glad you asked, if you read this far, it’s having the faith to chase any front running passion in your life to whatever ends blindly. Kind of.
To be continued…..
